Delivered and Free - Rebekah Nyakairu

Delivered and Free

I was never athletic growing up. I had not ran more than a couple miles in my life. Yet I signed up for a ten mile race. The distance seemed impossible to me. It was a journey of faith on so many different levels. Not only did I run that ten mile race, later that year I ran my first marathon. In ten months I went from never running a race to running a 26.2 mile marathon. I went from unbelief, fear, and having no history of running to overcoming my doubt and running further than I ever thought was possible. I love sharing my dramatic running story.

How God has transformed my heart and life is also a dramatic story. He delivered me from feelings of self-hatred to new levels of confidence in my identity in Christ. He brought me out of deep condemnation and showed me abundant grace.  My security and significance now comes from God.

Themes of freedom and deliverance are powerful in gospel music. Life and Favor is one of my favorite gospel songs. I love the passion, the truth, and the emotions behind the words. I love this song because it tells my story.

 You don’t know my story

You don’t know the day He set me free

You cannot imagine

The strongholds and the walls that severed me

In all God has been faithful to me

He promised he would never leave me

My story proves that God can use me

Deliverance is my testimony

As I listen to this song I am filled with such emotion. God has brought deliverance from very real struggles and strongholds. God healed me through His love and acceptance. His truth has transformed my heart and life. He has done more in my heart and life than I ever could have even begun to imagine. Thank you Jesus

My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you—I whom you have delivered. Psalm 71:23

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

Do you know these glorious truths? You are delivered. You are free. It does not matter how strong the addiction, the stronghold, or the bondage feels right now. It does not matter how many times you have failed. It does not matter how long your history has been with your struggle. What matters is the powerful, Almighty God declares you are FREE.  You are DELIVERED. That is the truth about you. Don’t believe the lie that you can never be free of your struggle. God has set you free. Walk in your deliverance.

What is the story that God has given you?
